This small, unassuming leather pouch contains a number of gold coins that possess a unique enchantment. When found, the pouch contains gold coins. Only these coins are enchanted; any other coins placed in the pouch are unaffected by it's magic.

Returning Bribes

When you use the enchanted coins to pay for a bribe or similar illicit transaction, the coins will magically return to the pouch in hours. The coins will return regardless of distance as long as you are on the same plane.
If the enchanted coins are spent on anything other than bribes or illicit payments, they will not return to the pouch.

Lore

Lady Seraphina d’Amour, a mysterious and enigmatic figure, was renowned throughout the realm for her cunning wit and unparalleled charm. She moved through high society like a shadow, her silken cloak shifting hues with each whispered rumor. But it was her unassuming leather pouch that held the true magic—the Pouch of Returning Bribes.
The pouch appeared one moonless night, nestled among the cobblestones of the bustling market square. Seraphina, then a penniless rogue, discovered it while evading the city guards. Its gold coins gleamed with an otherworldly luster, and she sensed their enchantment. With a sly smile, she pocketed the pouch, unaware of its true power.
Seraphina’s rise was meteoric. She bribed her way into noble circles, securing alliances and secrets. The enchanted coins flowed effortlessly from her pouch, returning like loyal hounds after each transaction. Her influence grew, and she became the unseen puppeteer behind the kingdom’s intrigues.
As the years passed, whispers spread. Merchants, officials, and even rival spies noticed their missing coins. The pouch’s magic was subtle—a few coins here, a handful there—but patterns emerged. The same coins reappeared, always in the same pouch. Rumors swirled: a phantom thief, a shadowy guild, or a vengeful spirit.
Enter Lord Alaric Voss, a relentless investigator. His hawk-like gaze missed nothing. Alaric’s obsession with the missing coins consumed him. He traced the enchantment back to Seraphina, who had become a recluse in her opulent manor. Alaric’s pursuit was relentless, fueled by justice and a personal vendetta.
One moonlit night, Alaric cornered Seraphina in her study. The pouch lay on her desk, its coins shimmering. She met his gaze, unafraid. “You seek answers,” she said, her voice like velvet. “But do you truly wish to know?”
Seraphina revealed her secret: the pouch was her curse. Each coin represented a bribe, a lie, a betrayal. The enchantment compelled her to return them, a cosmic balancing act. “I am the keeper of secrets,” she confessed. “The pouch ensures equilibrium. For every favor gained, a price is paid.”
Alaric hesitated. The pouch’s magic tugged at him—the weight of truth, the cost of justice. He could expose Seraphina, destroy her reputation, and end her reign. Or he could accept her offer: become the next keeper, bound by the pouch’s rules.
Alaric chose the pouch. He vanished from society, leaving only rumors. The coins flowed, and he whispered secrets into the night. The pouch’s curse became his salvation, and he wondered if Lady Seraphina had ever truly existed. Perhaps she was merely a guise—the embodiment of the pouch’s ancient magic.
And so, the Pouch of Returning Bribes continued its enigmatic journey, weaving fate and fortune, secrets and lies, through the hands of those who dared to wield it.
