The Mirror of Memories
Illustration: Midjourney

This is a small, circular mirror that can fit in the palm of your hand. It has a plain silver frame.

Review memory

Once per day, you can use an action to look into the mirror and speak the name of a person or a place that you have seen or heard of. The mirror will show you a memory of your choice related to that person or place, as if you were there. The memory can be from any point in time, past or present, and can last up to 10 minutes. You can end the memory early by closing your eyes or looking away from the mirror.
You can view your own memories, or the memories of others. If it is not your memory you must make an intelligence check as described in the table below.

Question the past

While viewing a memory, you can use an action to speak a question aloud. The mirror will answer the question in a whisper, as long as it is related to the memory and can be answered with a simple yes or no. The mirror cannot lie, but it may not know the answer to every question.

Limitations

The mirror can only show memories that are true and factual, not altered by magic or deception. However, the memories may be incomplete, biased, or distorted by the perspective of the original owner. The mirror cannot show you the future or anything that has not happened yet.

Personal

While you are attuned to the mirror it will only work for you. If anyone else tries to use it, they will see nothing but their own reflection. If you lose or break the mirror, you can find it again by speaking its name three times while holding a silver coin. The mirror will appear in your hand, replacing the coin.
