Arcane Bombard

weapon (siege), uncommon

The Arcane Bombard resembles a large cannon mounted on a wheeled platform. It is about 10 feet long, 4 feet wide, and 6 feet tall, and weighs about 500 pounds. It can fire metal balls that explode with devastating force. It requires 2 or 3 people to move, aim and fire.

Instructions

To use the arcane bombard, you need two or three creatures working together. One creature loads a metal ball into the barrel as an action. Another creature uses a tinderbox or a fire spell to light the fuse as an action. The third creature aims the cannon at a point within range and speaks a command word to fire it as an action.

Ready, Aim, Fire!

The cannon has a range of 1000 feet. It deals bludgeoning damage and force damage to each creature and object within a 20-foot radius of the point of impact. A successful DC 15 Dexterity saving throw halves the damage.

Ready, Aim, Fire!

The cannon has a range of 800 feet. It deals bludgeoning damage and force damage to each creature and object within a 10-foot radius of the point of impact. A successful DC 15 Dexterity saving throw halves the damage.

Misfire

Please note that this is a pre-production prototype and an engineering sample. The cannon is prone to misfire and lacks the safety features that will be installed in the final product. Whenever you fire it, roll a d20. On a 1, the cannon explodes, dealing fire damage to each creature and object within 30 feet of it. The cannon is destroyed in the process.

Arcane Enhancement

The cannon is enchanted with a special effect. Whenever you fire it, roll a d12 and consult the table below to determine what happens.
d6Effect
1-6Nothing special happens
7The cannonball splits into smaller projectiles that fly in a cone shape. Each creature in a 150-foot cone must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or take bludgeoning damage and force damage, or half as much damage on a successful save.
8The cannonball creates a shockwave that pushes everything away from the point of impact. Each creature and object within 100 feet of the point of impact must make a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be pushed 10 feet away and knocked prone.
9The cannonball emits a dazzling light that mesmerizes the enemies. Each creature within 30 feet of the point of impact must make a DC 15 Intelligence saving throw or be stunned for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
10The cannonball explodes in a burst of arcane energy that creates a random magical effect. Roll on the Wild Magic Surge table (PHB p.104) to determine what happens.
11The cannonball explodes in a large blast radius. It deals bludgeoning damage and force damage to each creature and object within a 40-foot radius of the point of impact. A successful DC 15 Dexterity saving throw halves the damage.
12The cannonball bounces off the target and ricochets to another target within range. Choose another target that is at least 50 ft from the original target, and no more than 150 ft away. The secondary hit deals half damage.
