Shadowfell Blade

weapon (greatsword), artifact (requires attunement)

The Shadowfell Blade is a fearsome weapon to behold. Its hilt is made from iron from the Shadowfell, and its blade is made from shadow. The blade itself seems to absorb light and cast a shadow around it, making it difficult to see in low light conditions. The sword's pommel is adorned with a black gemstone that seems to pulse with dark energy. The weapon exudes an aura of malevolence that can be felt by those nearby.

Shadow Blade

The blade of the sword is made from pure shadow making it much lighter than a normal greatsword. The weapon has the finesse property in addition to heavy and two-handed.

Magic Weapon

You gain a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.

Life Eater

When you hit a creature with this weapon, it deals necrotic damage instead of the usual slashing damage.
Creatures hit by the blade have their hit point maximum reduced by an amount equal to the necrotic damage dealt. This reduction lasts until the creature finishes a long rest.

Shadow strike

When you are in dim light or darkness attacks with this weapon are made with advantage.
Also attacks with this weapon score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.

Shadowfall

Once per short rest, you can use an action to activate the Shadowfell Blade. When you do so, you plunge the sword into the ground and utter a command word in Abyssal. The sword then emits a wave of dark energy that spreads out in a 30-foot radius around you. All creatures within range must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 20) or become frightened of you for 1 minute. While frightened in this way, creatures are also vulnerable to necrotic damage. After using this feature, you take necrotic damage for each creature affected by it.

Attunement

Attuning to this item has a cost: your hit point maximum is reduced by twice your level. Any creature who attunes to this weapon is considered proficient with it.
