Lore
In the secluded coastal village of Elden’s Hollow, nestled between craggy cliffs and crashing waves, there lived a Tabaxi named Kaelo Stormpaw. His fur was the color of storm clouds, and his eyes held the same restless energy as the churning sea. Kaelo was no ordinary fisherman; he possessed an insatiable curiosity that drove him to explore every nook and cranny of the world around him.
One moonless night, as the salty breeze whispered secrets to the shore, Kaelo’s net snagged on something far weightier than any fish he had ever caught. With sinewy muscles, he hauled the mysterious object onto his weathered fishing boat. It was a gray gemstone, its surface etched with ancient symbols that seemed to shift and writhe like eels in moonlight. The Aboleth’s Eye, they called it—a relic of forgotten epochs when abominable creatures ruled the depths.Kaelo’s mind expanded the moment he touched the gem. Visions flooded his consciousness: the sunken city of Lur’ath, its spires of coral and luminescent algae; the aboleths, their minds like vast, murky oceans, whispering secrets of forgotten magic and forbidden knowledge. The gem granted him the ability to breathe underwater, and his senses stretched beyond the mundane world, reaching into the abyssal depths.
As days turned into weeks, Kaelo’s obsession grew. He spent less time mending nets and more time diving into the ocean’s fathomless blue. His fellow villagers watched with a mix of awe and concern as he returned with tales of lost civilizations, sunken temples, and cryptic runes etched into the ocean floor. The Aboleth’s Eye fueled his insatiable hunger for discovery, and he became a wanderer of the deep, his boat a mere vessel for his boundless curiosity.
Kaelo’s fur darkened with algae, and his eyes glowed with the gem’s eerie light. He spoke of Nerid, the Sea Oracle, a being who resided in the heart of a bioluminescent whirlpool. Nerid, he claimed, held the answers to life’s greatest mysteries—the purpose of existence, the forgotten gods, and the true nature of the stars. Villagers gathered around campfires, listening to Kaelo’s tales with a mix of reverence and fear.
But then came the day when Kaelo didn’t return. Weeks stretched into months, and the villagers whispered of his fate. Some believed he had become one with the sea, a spectral figure haunting the depths. Others feared that the Aboleth’s Eye had consumed him, turning him into a vessel for ancient malevolence. No one dared venture into the whirlpools or explore the submerged ruins where Kaelo had last been seen.
And so, the tale of Kaelo Stormpaw became a cautionary legend. Fishermen would raise their mugs in taverns, toasting to the brave Tabaxi who sought answers beyond mortal ken. But they also crossed their hearts, praying that they would never glimpse the Aboleth’s Eye or hear the siren call of the abyss.
To this day, the villagers of Elden’s Hollow cast their nets with trepidation, wondering if Kaelo still roamed the ocean’s depths, a seeker of forbidden truths or a mere echo in the currents. The Aboleth’s Eye remained hidden, waiting for another curious soul to unravel its mysteries—a beacon of both wonder and dread beneath the moonless waves.
