Holy Defender

armor (shield), legendary (requires attunement by a paladin)

This large shield is made of solid gold and adorned with intricate details of platinum and silver. In the center of the shield is a large crystal that seems to be made from liquid platinum. The insides of this crystal swirl when the shield moves, reflecting the light in dazzling patterns. The shield radiates a holy aura that inspires courage and faith in those who wield it or stand near it.

Enhanced Defense

While holding this shield, you have a +2 bonus to AC. This bonus is in addition to the shield’s normal bonus to AC.

Aura of Protection

While you hold the shield, it creates an aura in a 10-foot radius around you. You and all creatures friendly to you in the aura have resistance to necrotic damage. If you have 17 or more levels in the paladin class, the radius of the aura increases to 30 feet.

Shield of Faith

When you or another creature within 10 feet of you makes a saving throw against an effect that deals damage, you can use your reaction to roll + your Charisma modifier and add that to the saving throw. You can use this feature after the dice have been rolled, but before the outcome is determined.
If you have 17 or more levels in the paladin class, the range increases to 30 feet.
Once you use this feature you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Divine Intervention

Once per day, when a creature within 10 feet of you takes damage that would reduce it to 0 hit points, you can use your reaction to prevent that damage and instead heal the creature for + your Charisma modifier hit points.
If you have 17 or more levels in the paladin class, the range increases to 30 feet.
The shield then glows with a bright light that fills a 60-foot radius for 1 minute. Any fiend or undead that starts its turn in the light must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC or be frightened of you until the end of its next turn.
