The ring is made of gold and has a thin band engraved with arcane symbols. The ruby is a large and flawless stone that glows with a faint red light. It is cut in a hexagonal shape and set in a complex metal framework that resembles a cage. The ring radiates a subtle aura of magic and intelligence.

Linguistic Manipulation

Once per day, when you cast a spell that has a verbal component, you can choose to alter, add, or remove one letter from the spell’s name. For example, you could cast “Cone of Old” instead of “Cone of Cold”. The effect of the altered spell is determined by the DM and should be appropriate for the level of the spell slot you expended.

Linguistic Interference

Once per day when a creature within 30 feet of you casts a spell that you know and has a verbal component, you can use your reaction to make an ability check using your spellcasting ability. The DC equals 13 + the level of the spell. On a success, you can alter, add, or remove one letter from the spell’s name, potentially changing its effect. The effect of the altered spell is determined by the DM and should be appropriate for the level of the spell slot the creature expended.

Sentience

The ring is partially sentient and can communicate with you telepathically. It has an Intelligence of 14, a Wisdom of 10, and a Charisma of 16. It can speak, read, and understand Common and two other languages of your choice. It is obsessed with language and grammar and will constantly correct your speech and writing. It also has a high opinion of itself and will often mock or insult other creatures’ linguistic abilities. The ring is loyal to you but will not hesitate to express its displeasure if you misuse or abuse its powers.
