Lore

The Crown of the Raven Queen is a legendary artifact that dates back to the Dawn War, when the gods fought against the primordials for the fate of the world. The Raven Queen, who was then a mortal sorceress named Shara Ravenwing, joined the side of the gods and proved herself to be a powerful ally. She was especially adept at using shadow magic and necromancy, as well as manipulating fate and destiny.
During the war, she caught the eye of Nerull, the god of death, who was impressed by her skills and cunning. He offered her a place among his followers, promising her power and immortality. Shara Ravenwing accepted his offer, but secretly plotted to overthrow him and take his place. She gathered a loyal group of followers, who called themselves the Shadar-Kai, and forged a crown from twisted branches and feathers. The crown was imbued with shadow magic and necrotic energy, as well as a connection to the ravens, who were Nerull's messengers.
Shara Ravenwing used the crown to communicate with the ravens, learning Nerull's secrets and plans. She also used it to cast powerful spells and curses on her enemies, as well as to gain insight and intimidation over others. She waited for the right moment to strike, when Nerull was weakened by his battles with the primordials. She confronted him in his domain of Pluton, and challenged him to a duel. With the help of her followers and the crown, she managed to defeat him and claim his mantle of death.
She then ascended to godhood, becoming the new goddess of death and fate. She renamed herself the Raven Queen, and took the ravens as her symbol. She also changed her appearance, becoming pale and raven-haired, with black eyes that could see through souls. She reshaped Pluton into her own realm of Letherna, where she ruled over the souls of the dead.
The crown remained with her, as a symbol of her power and authority. She rarely wore it, preferring to keep it in a hidden vault in Letherna. She only used it when she needed to deliver a message or a curse to someone in the world. She also occasionally bestowed it upon one of her most faithful servants, granting them some of her powers and blessings.
The crown is highly coveted by many who seek to gain favor with the Raven Queen, or to usurp her position. It is also feared by many who dread her wrath or curse. The crown is said to have a will of its own, and only obeys those who truly worship the Raven Queen and share her ideals. Those who try to use it for other purposes may find themselves cursed by the crown instead.
