Darkness, Edge of Oblivion and Maw of the Void, Blade of Shadow and Death, Stealer of Lives and Light is a fearsome weapon to behold. Its hilt is made from iron from the Shadowfell, and its blade is made from shadow. Life Eater

This weapon inflicts necrotic damage instead of its normal damage type.
When you damage a creature with this weapon, its hit point maximum is reduced by the same amount until it completes a long rest.
If this weapon reduces a creature to 0 hit points, it devours its soul. You regain hit points equal to the necrotic damage you dealt. A soul devoured by this weapon can only be restored by a true resurrection spell, a wish spell, or divine intervention.

Shadow strike

When you are in dim light or darkness attacks with this weapon are made with advantage.
Also attacks with this weapon score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.

Nightfall

Once per short rest, you can activate this sword’s Nightfall feature as a bonus action. When you do so, a 30-foot-radius sphere of shadows emanates from the sword and moves with you, obscuring the area. Within the sphere, bright light becomes dim light, dim light becomes darkness, and darkness becomes magical darkness. You can see as if it was bright light inside the sphere.
While Nightfall is active, any creature other than you within the sphere has vulnerability to necrotic damage.
Nightfall lasts for 1 minute or until you end it as a bonus action.

Sentience

Darkness, Edge of Oblivion and Maw of the Void, Blade of Shadow and Death, Stealer of Lives and Light is a sentient chaotic evil weapon with an Intelligence of 18, a Wisdom of 15, and a Charisma of 19. It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 120 feet.
The weapon communicates telepathically with its wielder and can speak, read, and understand Abyssal, Common, and Infernal.
