Chains of Asmodeus
Illustration: Flux

Forged in the deepest pits of Nessus, the Chains of Asmodeus were once wielded by Asmodeus’ chosen enforcers, used to break the wills of betrayers and drag the damned into servitude. It is a long and wicked whip made of interwoven black iron chains. The links are etched with glowing infernal runes that pulse with a deep crimson light. At the tip of the whip, the chains split into several jagged barbs. When wielded, the whip moves like a living thing, writhing and twisting as if eager to strike. A faint haze of black smoke rises from the metal, carrying the scent of burning flesh.

Infernal Tongue

While attuned to the Chains of Asmodeus, you gain the ability to speak, read, and write Infernal

Hellforged Whip

You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic whip. It deals slashing damage plus fire damage instead of the normal damage for a whip.

Infernal Shackles

The first time you hit a creature with an attack on your turn, spectral chains wrap around it. The target must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be grappled until the start of your next turn.

Soulbinder

If you reduce a humanoid creature to 0 hit points with this weapon, it dies and its soul is dragged into the Nine Hells unless it is restored to life within 1 minute. While its soul remains in the Nine Hells, the creature cannot be resurrected by any means short of a Wish (conjuration)

The Chains of Asmodeus are an instrument of absolute tyranny, and they do not tolerate weakness.
  • Infernal Oath. If you willingly end your attunement to the Chains, you suffer psychic damage, and your next long rest offers no benefits as infernal nightmares torment you.
  • Lord’s Demand. The Chains of Asmodeus whisper in your mind, urging you toward domination and cruelty. When you attack a creature and leave it alive while it is incapacitated, paralyzed, restrained, grappled or unconscious, you feel an overwhelming compulsion to strike again. If you choose not to, the Chains lash out in fury, searing your flesh for fire damage.
  • Soul Forfeit. If you ever die while attuned to the Chains, your soul is claimed by Asmodeus and sendt to the nine hells.

Lore

The Chains of Asmodeus were forged in the deepest forges of Nessus, the ninth and most infernal layer of the Nine Hells, where the flames burn with the weight of eternity. They were crafted by the dark lord Asmodeus himself, forged not from metal alone but from the very essence of sin and suffering. Legends tell that the Chains were once wielded by his most loyal and brutal enforcers, devils tasked with dragging mortal souls into the depths of the Hells and breaking their spirits. Each strike of the whip carries not only the sting of hellfire but also the eternal weight of damnation, sealing the fate of those caught in its cruel grasp.
Asmodeus imbued the weapon with his own malevolent will, making it a living extension of his power. It is said that the whip hungers for the torment of the weak and the wicked alike, compelling its wielder to inflict suffering with every lash. Those who seek the Chains are drawn to power, but few survive its embrace without being irreversibly corrupted by its influence. The Chains’ dark powers evolve over time, growing stronger as the wielder’s soul is more deeply bound to Asmodeus. In the darkest corners of the Nine Hells, the weapon is both a symbol of supreme authority and a tool of eternal torment, used not just to punish enemies, but to maintain Asmodeus' dominion over the very hearts of mortals.
