Liquid Transformation

As an action you can place the chalice in direct sunlight and speak it's command word to transform the contents of the chalice.

  • Water becomes a fine dwarven ale, which can grant advantage on Constitution checks and saving throws for 1 hour when drunk.
  • Ale becomes exotic elven wine, which can grant advantage on Dexterity checks and saving throws for 1 hour when drunk.
  • Wine becomes strong spirits brewed by gnomes, which can grant advantage on Intelligence checks and saving throws for 1 hour when drunk.
  • If the chalice is empty, it can create holy water. You can also drink the holy water from the chalice as an action to regain hit points and remove one condition affecting you.

Lore

The Chalice of the Sun was forged by a legendary dwarven smith named Tharion Brightforge, who was inspired by the teachings of Pelor, the god of the sun. Tharion wanted to create a gift for his elven wife, Liriel Sunstrider, who was a devout follower of Pelor. He spent years crafting the chalice, imbuing it with the essence of sunlight and blessing it with Pelor’s power. He presented it to Liriel on their anniversary, and she was overjoyed by the gesture. She used the chalice to share drinks with her husband and their friends, and to heal the sick and wounded with its holy water.
The chalice was passed down through their descendants, who became known as the Sunstriders, a clan of half-dwarf-half-elves who revered Pelor and valued peace and harmony. The chalice was a symbol of their heritage and their faith, and they guarded it with their lives. They also used it to perform rituals and ceremonies in honor of Pelor, such as the Festival of the Sun, where they would fill the chalice with wine and drink from it to celebrate the summer solstice.
The chalice was lost when the Sunstriders were attacked by a horde of orcs, who raided their village and slaughtered most of them. The orcs took the chalice as a trophy, unaware of its true power. They tried to drink from it, but found that it only transformed their ale into fancy elven wine, which they considered worthless. They threw the chalice into a pile of junk, where it remained for decades.
